Teams with cap space 2023 NBA
Once more the NBA salary cap rises to record numbers By Eurohoops team/ While European basketball is still trying ways to be sustainable, the NBA continues to be one of the more profitable leagues in the world and that is reflected to the salaries of the players. The NBA told its teams Friday that it still expects
to see a significant jump in the salary cap and tax level in the 2023-24 season. Based on current projections, both figures – $134 million for the salary cap, and $162 million for the tax level – would set records, and both are $1 million higher than the league’s most recent projections made in June. The figures represent the cap rising 8.4% and the tax level 7.8% over the 2022-23 season. The 2022-23 season has a salary cap of $123.655 million and a tax level of $150.267 million. Also
Friday, the league told teams that total luxury tax payments for the coming season would be around $660 million, half of which would fund revenue sharing and the other half distributed in equal shares – about $17 million each – to teams not currently projected to have to pay the tax.
Examining the NBA’s $133M Salary Cap Projection for 2023-24By Eric Pincus|2022-07-01T12:45:33-07:00July 1st, 2022| The NBA announced its salary cap figures for the 2022-23 season, along with a new projection for the 2023-24 campaign at $133 million with a luxury tax threshold of $161 million. By December 15, 2022, the NBA and National Basketball Players Association can opt out of the current collective bargaining agreement. A new deal could lead to a system change that alters the landscape of the league. Or it could be very much like the current system. Based on the rules in place, the climb in salary cap from $123.7 million to $133 million would have the following impact on the 2023-24 season, starting with maximum salaries (based on the players’ years of service in the league):
Minimum salaries would similarly climb:
The following exceptions will also climb with the cap:
With a luxury tax projection at $161 million, the apron (hard cap) projects to reach $167,971,000. At 90 percent of the cap, the minimum team salary would be $119,700,000. Additionally, rookie-scale contracts (for the top-30 draft picks in June) will climb proportionately. The scale amount for the No. 1 pick would be $9,908,800, though it’s nearly a standard for players drafted in the first round to earn the maximum 120 percent of scale. The following table shows the projected rookie-scale salaries (at 120 percent) for the 2023 draft class:
Additionally, the amount of cash that teams can use in trade projects to climb from the current figure of $6,363,000. A franchise will be able to send out as much as $6,844,000 from July 2023 to June 30, 2024. A team can also receive the same amount via trade, regardless of how much it sends out throughout the 2023-24 season. Share This Story, Choose Your Platform!
