How to install Oracle Client on windows 10 64 bit

I am trying to install the Oracle 12c 64bit client on a Windows 10 64bit PC. Whenever I run the setup it just quickly pops up a DOS window then immediately closes it. No error messages, nothing.

I know there are a few command line switches to ignore the prereq checking, but they don't appear to do anything.

Any tips are greatly appreciated...

The big question is 'what do you want the client for'? Most users can just unzip the Oracle Instant Client package(s) and not need to run an installer. If the tools (not the OS) you use are 64-bit then install the 64-bit Instant Client from here, otherwise if the tools are 32-bit then install the 32-bit Instant Client from here. Generic instructions are at the foot of each page, but check whether your tool etc has its own specific instructions.

The next question is do you really need the old 12c client? Since 19c Oracle Client libraries (including those in Oracle Instant Client) can connect to Oracle Database 11.2 or later, you can probably install the latest-and-greatest Instant Client (or "full" Oracle Client if you really need it).

Try opening up a command prompt in the same directory as the Setup.exe file you are attempting to run, then just run the executable from the command line. This should hopefully show what is popping up in the command prompt.

Another option to try is right clicking on the Setup.exe file and selecting Run as Administrator.

Check following folders and delete them, if existing:

• %ProgramFiles%\Oracle\Inventory
• %TEMP%\deinstall*
• %TEMP%\OraInstall*
• %TEMP%\CVU*

Then open a Command Line window as Administrator and start setup.exe from there - perhaps you get more information.

After installation have a look at %TEMP%\OraInstall* there you should find a detailed log file.

1. Make sure you are running the executable from a local drive, not a removeable drive or mapped drive.
2. Make sure you have the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable installed.

Overview

At Indiana University, to download the Oracle client for Windows, UITS recommends downloading the client directly from Oracle's website. This requires a valid OTN (Oracle Technology Network) username and password. If you do not have a valid OTN username and password, visit Oracle Database Software Downloads. At the top, hover over "Sign In", click , and then follow the on-screen instructions.

To download the Oracle client directly from Oracle's website:

1. Go to Oracle Database Software Downloads.
2. Under "Oracle Database 19c", below "19.3 - Enterprise Edition", to the far right of "Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit)", click .
3. Scroll down to the appropriate Oracle client for your operating system:
   • 32-bit: Under "Oracle Database 19c Client (19.3) for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)", click . This file requires 1 GB of free space on your hard drive.
   • 64-bit: Under "Oracle Database 19c Client (19.3) for Microsoft Windows (x64)", click . This file requires 1 GB of free space on your hard drive.

   You will be prompted to accept Oracle's license agreement and enter a valid OTN username and password. Once you have done so, you will see the "File Download" dialog box. If you do not have an OTN username and password, see the instructions for getting one above.

4. Save the file.
5. In Windows, navigate to the file, right-click it, and then select .
6. Select a destination folder for the extracted files, and then perform the extraction.
7. To launch the Oracle Client Installer, go to the destination folder, open the client directory, and then double-click (the Oracle setup file).

   At this point:

   • Windows may prompt you for an administrator username and password. Enter an administrator username and password to proceed.
   • Windows may present an "Open File - Security Warning" dialog box. Click to proceed.

   It may take a minute for the "Oracle Client Installer" window to appear. To see it, you may need to minimize any other application windows that are open.
