Máy in nên được tắt đi và bỏ chế độ tự động cập nhật Automatic Updates.

1. Tải về driver của HP Laserjet 1010 cho Windows XP tại đây. , sau đó chạy nó để bung nén ra thư mục nào đó do bạn chọn, hoặc để nguyên thư mục mặc định, nhưng bạn phải nhớ nơi lưu chúng

2. Trong Windows chọn Start ->  Devices and Printers và chọn Add Printer.

3. Có 1 hộp thoại mở ra, Click chọn Add a Local Printer.

4. Check Use an Existing Port: LPT1.

5. Chọn Have Disk và chọn Browse để mở đến thư mục chứa driver mà bạn vừa giải nén, và chọn file  HPP1010U.inf trong thư mục HW, rồi chọn Next

6. Nó sẽ báo lỗi. Nguyên nhân vì local Printer spooler service đã bị dừng chạy. Vào Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Services và bạn tìm trong danh sách sẽ thấy Printer Spooler service , bạn bấm chuột phải vào nó và chọn start. Bây giờ quay trở lại cửa sổ đang cài máy in và bấm chọn Next. Nó sẽ báo lỗi là có 1 máy in cùng tên đang tồn tại. Chọn cancel, sau đó vào lại Devices and printersvà refesh trang này (F5). Bạn sẽ nhìn thấy máy in xuất hiện. Bấm chuột phải vào biểu tượng máy in, lựa chọn properties và chon Dot4 trong mục ports .

7. Bật máy in lên . Windows bây giờ sẽ tìm thấy Driver cho nó.
