Should I use CPU or GPU for encoding?
Hello there, since Handbrake is such a complex program, I think that I can find out the answers for my questions on this subreddit. First of all I use a 1070 TI overclocked and a Ryzen 5600X water cooled oc cpu , nvme ssd, 16 gb ram on 3200mhz etc. Show Using this hardware, what type of VideoEncoder is the fastest and which one is the highest quality for creating smaller sizes files , and are there any extra settings or typed in parameters under advanced options ? Should I use my CPU or my GPU ? If it makes different answers depending on the purpose , I use Handbrake for two reasons : **1.**Encoding OBS recorded gameplay shooter videos to upload later in youtube. (and for this I might Upscale 1080 content to 4k just to benefit for the improved quality of the different youtube codec) **2.**Creating smaller sizes but still good quality to be used later on Apple Device (iPhone 11 pro max) as a VR smartphone.(In this case I might turn 8k, 6k videos into 4k or 2k)

Does encoding use CPU?Encoding video is a very CPU-intensive operation, and OBS is no exception.
Does CPU or GPU decode video?Software decoding uses the CPU to decode and read video, while hardware decoding is mainly based on GPU (graphics processing unit) to process video data instead of CPU.
