1.75x Frame scaling? That's quite high... Frame scaling will hurt your performance. It's rendering the game at a higher resolution and then downscaling it to your monitors resolution. Averaging 60-70FPS at approx 1440p with all settings set to Ultra is not far off what what to expect from a GTX1080.
But not sure how much performance you will see by dropping the frame scaling down seeing as average of 70FPS is to be expected from a Ryzen 5 1500X in GTA V.
TLDR; Might be able to increase FPS by a little by decreasing the frame scaling (try 1.5x), but for the settings you're running you're pretty much at what should be expected from your system. Hello, I was fiddling with the settings in GTA 5 on my PC, and I've come across this setting called "Frame Scaling" What does it do, exactly? Since I'm using a single 290X (soon I'll be upgrading to an ASUS Strix GTX1070), I've found that the resolution set to 3840x2160 is fairly playable with the highest settings, only with the frame scaling of 0.667 What resolution does the game use now?
It looks way better than 1440p because of the scaling, and it looks a bit sharper too

EDIT: just crunched the numbers, it is exactly 1440p, but for some reason, 4K scaled to 1440p looks way better than 1440p itself without scaling (without scaling, everything looks more blurry and jagged) If you send a 1440p signal to a 4k monitor, the monitor will use its internal scaling algorithms to map it to the 4k pixels. If you use a scaling option in the game, the game will use its own algorithms to rescale the image from 14r0p to 4k. There are a gazillion rescaling algorithms. In your case, it would seem the one built into the game is a lot better than the one built into your monitor. Unfortunately this is not uncommon - monitors don't exactly have a CPU at their disposal, so a lot of manufacturers cheap out and use a simple scaling algorithm instead of paying a few cents extra to include a decent hardware scaler.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_scaling

Frame scaling ups the resolution of the game and then downscales it to your monitors resolution.

And what resolution would "3840x2160*0.667" be in normal circumstances? I know that 4K with 0.5 scaling equals 1080p, but this "mysterious" resolution looks far more sharper and better than 1440p (without frame scaling, on a 4K display)EDIT: just crunched the numbers, it is exactly 1440p, but for some reason, 4K scaled to 1440p looks way better than 1440p itself without scaling (without scaling, everything looks more blurry and jagged)

You're definitely right, I do have a fairly cheap monitor (Samsung U28D590D) which is less precise with scaling than gaming-oriented displays I'm afraid I'll have to upgrade my GPU sooner or later, to be able to play in 4K Page 2 Hi i've bought a dell s2716DG monitor and it doesn't have speakers built it. It has an audio jack in the side which i use for now. But i would much rather plug into the back of the computer and use it as a microphone/headset for online gaming. What do i need in order to do this? I use turtle beaches px24's also connected to one of those superhuman box things. And it will connect straight to the motherboard on back of pc i believe. Thanks

If it has a headset/speaker plug (green) and a microphone plug (pink) you should be able to just plug them into the back of your motherboard in their respective colored ports.

Page 3 I've just bought a 27 inch dell g sync monitor brand is s2716DG. To optimise the monitor, i went into the nvidia control panel and changed the refresh rate to 144hz. Its already in native 2560x1440 native resolution. Is there anything else i need to do to optimise this for the best? Such as turning v sync off whatever that is? Thank you

For some reason i've connected the monitor up using a display port connection but i'm getting no sound :s It's still pretty early in the day so my brain might not be function yet, but I do not believe that monitor has speakers. Most don't - monitor speakers tend to be rather craptacular. If you're simply referring to another problem, first thing is to make sure that you've installed your audio drivers, given that this is a new build.

Turn V-Sync off when gaming. You will find it under the settings menu and it will allow the G-Sync to function properly. You could calibrate the monitors colours by following some guides online but part from that you should be good to go!

You're right. Facepalm. It doesn't have speakers. Ive plugged in headphones that seem to do the trick. I might want to use my turtle beach px24s as a headset/speaker. I plugged it into the microphone jack, it shows to be connected but not registering my voice. Am i missing something here? |
