Whenever you include a URL in a Facebook message, comment or status update, Facebook generates a link that includes a picture from the website and a short description of the website. If you do not want to send this Facebook-generated link, you can hide it so that only the URL is sent to the Facebook user. In order to do this in a Facebook message, remove the link from the message after the link is generated.

Log in to your Facebook account.

Click the "Messages" icon at the top of your Facebook homepage and select the "Send a New Message" option.

Type the name of the Facebook contact that you want to send the message to in the space labeled "To:" and type the message in the space labeled "Message:."

Paste the URL in the space labeled "Message." Facebook automatically generates a link for the URL.

Click the "X" icon to the right of the "Link" heading in the upper right corner of the link window to hide the link.

Click the "Send" button to send the message to the Facebook contact.
