I want to clear one thing before starting the review. I'm an Asus fan boy, I bought this laptop a few days ago, after a lot of research. This is the best laptop at this price tag in India to buy although it is over priced if you see US prices. It is the only laptop that comes with a 7th Gen HQ processor, RGB keyboard, metal display cover and a beautiful IPS display. HP Omen has IPS too but a very dull display and no metal body. So, for now, no doubt, it is a great laptop but their services are the worst in India. In this review, I'll share my personal experience with this laptop.

Box Contents:
----------------------
1. Box inside box
2. ROG Strix GL553 Laptop
3. A cool ROG backpack
4. Charging adapter.
5. User Manual.

Let me tell you about other good and bad stuff of this laptop first:

---------------------
The Good:
---------------------
+ Sexy design and solid build quality, display cover is made of metal.
+ It's glowing ROG logo is something that grabs the eyeballs attention.
+ IPS display with 72% NTSC with 178˚ wide-viewing angle display so video and graphics work can be done on it.[kam chal jayega]
+ The panel has the matte finish, so won't get distracted while playing games, watching movies or working on your projects.
+ Beautiful programmable RGB backlit keyboard with brightness settings.
+ The keyboard is really good, you would love to type on it. It is also 30 [N-]Key rollover and the most beautiful part of it is Isolated Arrow Keys.
+ Trackpad is good too, supports Windows 10 Precision Touchpad gestures.
+ Does get hot when browsing, watching movies etc.
+ It also has the one reversible Type C port which gives you easier device connections and hyper-fast data transfer speeds.
+ Array microphone really works, it gives you richer recording than the other laptops.
+ ROG gaming center gives you complete control on your hardware.
+ Rubber feets are big, beautiful and strong.
+ Packed with a 7200RPM hard drive and a Super-Multi DVD drive
+ You also get Windows 10 Home pre-installed with it.
+ Performace is great, no problem here!!

-------------------
The Bad:
-------------------
- The RGB keyboard is programmable but has limitations like you cant program each key.
- The space key makes some weird noise.
- I don't like the power key and its positioning, just above the "-" key, as a normal key.
- It has got only one fan inside to cool it down, instead of DVD drive they could have used that space for the additional cooling fan and heat sink.
- When it gets hot heat can be felt on the left side of the keyboard.
- Speakers output is not good, not so loud.
- The complete laptop body is a fingerprint magnet.
- Asus service read further to know more!!

I paid more than 1 lakh for the laptop and what I got is a laptop with serious back-lit bleeding in the display[image attached] and extreme flex of display from the right side. [more than normal]

I simply called Asus call centre and the thing I like about it is "call very quickly gets connected to a representative, almost 0 wait time". Thumbs up for Asus!!

They registered my complaint and the same day I got engineer visit at my home. He opened the laptop and then checked, clicked pictures, made videos, and sent to his senior who asked him to look for the physical damage, he wasn't able to find a little scratch or any kind of mark on the laptop so said now my senior will visit and left my place.

After 3 days another engineer visits and he also opened the laptop, looked very closely inside if there is any physical and the result was zero!! He also clicked pictures, made videos and confirmed the issue, he took the two part request too on the job sheet "display" and the "display back cover".

He fitted everything back and now fitting of the display is not like a new laptop. It has the gap all around the display, and some marks on the laptop[The things I hate the most, I like my things neat and clean without any marks on it].

The next day got a call from the service centre to ask what BIOS version, I told them it is the latest version as I checked it recently but they didn't believe me and I had to send a photo to prove it. Then on another call, they asked me which Windows I'm using with the laptop, had to send another snapshot to prove that it is genuine Windows that ships with the laptop.

Today I got another call from the local Asus service centre now they also want to check everything again if there is any physical damage or the flex or backlit bleeding is normal. They want me to visit their service centre that too in week days, not even on Saturday. There was a warning too that my call will close if I don't visit them in time.

What all I want to share is they don't replace your part, they always try to find a way to reject your part replacements. You give them 1 lakh and if you get any problems then in return what you get is, they open your laptop again and again[bhai dil dukhta hai jabki aapki ram pyari ko koi is tarah se bar bar chhedta hai], they try to prove that you are wrong, that the problems are normal, they ask for images, they want you to be there on service center. This practice makes you miserable, I really wish that my laptop was not opened. :[
So my question here is why?? why so much of formalities? why Asus needs to open my expensive laptop 3 times just to order new parts or change a display panel and display cover?

Never faced such issue with my previous HP, Toshiba, Samsung laptops. Once I had visited the service centre to clean HP laptop, it got a very tiny scratch on display by their engineer, they admitted it and happily replaced my display along with the display cover in 7 days without an issue even my item was out of warranty. In the case of Toshiba, they replaced the hard drive in when it got bad sectors. Even LG too replaced my monitor instead of the panel for the abnormal backlit bleeding issue. This is what we call service. I forgot to mention one name "Apple", Do I really need to say anything about them? they just replace your item. Visit them, get your item checked, get your new item same day.

Another interesting thing is any new hardware installation on Asus laptops voids your warranty if it is not done by service centre by paying the service charge.

One more thing the HP, MSI, Dell are responsive on social media platforms like Facebook, twitter. They respond your queries but Asus doesn't do that, they don't even check private messages.

I generally don't write negative reviews but Asus compelled me to write this, one star only because of after sales service of a product worth 1 lakh or more.

I am providing some pictures of the product for better understanding as "A picture can speak a thousand words".

Thanks for reading my review, I hope it provided all the information for a wise and well-informed purchase decision. It always makes me feel proud that people find my reviews helpful.
