The lock screen is the first thing that you will see before you log in to your Windows 8 computer. Its concept is similar to setting up your preferred wallpaper background in the previous Windows versions. This is one cool feature of Windows that lets you add a personal touch to your computer. However, you may encounter a problem with Windows 8 where the lock screen picture does not change to the one that you have set. Try one of the following options to help you fix this issue:
OPTION 1: Configure the Local Group Policy Editor
NOTE: Make sure you are logged in as administrator before proceeding to the steps below.
STEP 1: Press the Windows logo + [R] keys on your keyboard to launch the Run window.
STEP 2: In the Open field, enter “gpedit.msc” then click OK.
STEP 3: When the Local Group Policy Editor window appears, double-click on Computer Configuration, then Administrative Templates, then Control Panel, and then Personalization.
STEP 4: Double-click on the Prevent changing lock screen image option.
STEP 5: Select Disabled, then click OK.
STEP 6: Now, double-click on the Force specific default lock screen image option.
STEP 7: Select Disabled, then click OK.
STEP 8: Check if the lock screen picture problem of your computer has been resolved.
OPTION 2: Run a System File Checker
STEP 1: Press the Windows logo + [X] keys on your keyboard.
STEP 2: Click on Command Prompt [Admin].
STEP 3: On the prompt, enter “SFC/SCANNOW” then press [Enter].
STEP 4: Wait for the process to complete then check if the lock screen picture problem of your computer has been resolved.

Help! Can't change Lock Screen picture!
Hi,
For some reason, since upgrading to Win 10 Pro 20H2, I am unable to set a custom lock screen picture. I can go to Settings\Personalization\Lock Screen and make my desired selection, but the system never honors that selection.I've even tried briefly changing my user permissions to Administrator...but still, no luck.
[NOTE: I have no problem setting a desired custom desktop background picture....I just can't change the Lock Screen picture.]
Suggestions, please? - Many Thanks

1. What please are you trying to change it to a picture from your saved pics or slideshow2. Underneath the lockscreen heading on the main window olf that setting do you have a entry
Some setttings are managed by the system administrator
or some similar meaning message3. . Check out the setting in Group Policy
Enable or Disable Changing Lock Screen Background in Windows 104. If the above GP entry is NOT set to enabled
then try a
system file check on
sfc /scannowrun on an admin cmd prompt
If that reports errors could not be fixed follow the procedure here on Option One as at 6 or as appropirate depending on the result of the system file check
Run SFC Command in Windows 105. If this
I've even tried briefly changing my user permissions to Administrator...but still, no luck.
means that you usually run a non admin user account
then if you DO NOT have a user account with admin rights, then create one and try on that account
RATHER than trying to temporarily enable admin rights for the everyday user account you run.6, If that does not work when you post the results of all my queries and suggestions I will advise on the next step

Problem mysteriously disappeared!
Macboatmaster, I started my PC this morning intending to follow your generous, well-thought-out advice.
Not sure why, but Lo and Behold, before I could begin, on bootup, the desired lock screen picture appeared with no further fuss.
The problem has mysteriously disappeared.
Nevertheless, I'm keeping your proposed solution in case it happens again in the future.
Thank you very much for posting; I'm sure it will help others.Kind Regards,
